Victorious Forever's George Scott trainee Mrair (Mehmas), the £880,000 Goffs UK Breeze-Up topper who ran second to a quirky sort at Newmarket just over two weeks ago, confirmed the promise of that debut effort with a dominant performance in Monday's British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Lingfield.
“I wasn't disappointed, the owner wasn't disappointed [with the debut effort] and we always wanted to get two runs into him before, potentially, going to [Royal] Ascot,” explained Scott. “Ryan [Moore] educated him well and he did what he had to do. He got the job done, but he looks like he's still learning. When they come from the breeze-ups, occasionally, you just need to get their mind settled. I was pleased to see him knuckle down and hit the line well. The [G2] Coventry would be the race to go for at Royal Ascot, but we'll have a chat with the team and make a plan for him.”
Tracking the leaders in third through the initial stages, the 1-6 pick was beyond recall once quickening for control approaching the final furlong and came under a late drive to prevail by 2 3/4 lengths from Final Objective (Sioux Nation).
Mrair is the ninth of 10 foals and seventh scorer out of a half-sister to G3 Premio Regina Elena (Italian 1000 Guineas) heroine Mi Raccomando (Poet's Voice) and the dual stakes-winning G3 Premio Dormello third Mia Diletta (Selkirk).
Mia Diletta's trio of stakes performers is headed by multiple Group-winning G3 Premio Parioli (Italian 2000 Guineas) hero Poeta Diletto (Poet's Voice), while her descendants also include Group 3 winner Master (Territories).
Mrair is a half-brother to Listed Prix Ronde de Nuit victrix Hastalavistababy (Dandy Man), Listed Blenheim Stakes third Mia Mento (Casamento) and a yearling filly by Kodiac.
